Estimating Dredging Costs in Texas

The Mapping Network and PondMedics completed a bathymetry and sediment survey for a lake near Dallas, Texas.   The client is preparing for dredging proposals for 9 coves and they needed to know the location and amount of material to be removed to bring the coves to the desired depths.

The current water depths were mapped as well as the depth to hard bottom.  The difference between the current water depth (top of sediment) and the hard bottom is the amount of soft sediment that can be removed to bring the lake back to the original depths.  However, the client is requiring the water depth be a minimum of 7 foot deep in navigable areas so this will require dredging the hard clay in some areas.   The Mapping Network team created 3D models comparing the proposed lake bottom with the existing lake bottom and calculated the amount of hard material to be removed.  This critical information will be used to assist with bids for dredging contractors to remove all the material.
