Lake Mapping in South Carolina

Solitude Lake Management created a bathymetry and a sediment volume study for a property owners association in South Carolina. The pond was mapped to understand current water depths and to calculate the amount of accumulated sediment.  This information with assist the POA with future dredge planning. About The Mapping Network:  The Mapping Network is an industry leader in Geographic Information Systems, GPS Data Collection, Aerial Imagery, and Data Conversion.  We specialize in terrain and sub-surface…

Coal Plant Ponds Bathymetry

The Mapping Network team surveyed two ash ponds for a coal power plant.   The purpose was to quantity and locate ash accumulation in the pond because it needed to be removed per EPA regulations.   By comparing the original bottoms of the ponds with the current bottom depths, a computer model calculated the location and amount of material.  The power company used the information to assist with bids for dredging contractors to remove all the material….

Sediment Volume Calculation for Dredge Project

The Mapping Network and Aquatic Environmental Services completed a sediment survey for a lake near Atlanta, Georgia.   The current water depths were mapped as well as the depth to hard bottom.  The difference between the current water depth (top of sediment) and the hard bottom is the amount of soft sediment that can be removed to bring the lake back to the original depths.  The client is preparing for dredging proposals for two coves and…

Water Intake Dredge Comparison Map

The Mapping Network completed a bathymetry survey to show the status of a dredging project  for an intake to a power plant.   The comparison map was calculated to verify the amount and location of material removed.   Areas still needing to be dredged are located and the dredging contractor will focus their efforts on those locations.  This verifies the dredging has reached the planned depths. About The Mapping Network:  The Mapping Network is an industry leader…

Measuring Sediment Volume in a Pond

Solitude Lake Management created a bathymetry and a sediment volume study for a home owners association in Virginia. The pond was mapped to understand current water depths and to calculate the amount of accumulated sediment.  This information with assist the HOA with long term management planning of the water body. About The Mapping Network:  The Mapping Network is an industry leader in Geographic Information Systems, GPS Data Collection, Aerial Imagery, and Data Conversion.  We specialize…

Land and Lake Survey of Active Sand and Gravel Mine

The Mapping Network provided a hydrographic and land survey of an active sand and gravel operation.  The mining operation wanted a view of their lake bathymetry to see if there were any areas they still needed to dredge.  The also will be using this information for an upcoming wetland creation project. About The Mapping Network:  The Mapping Network is an industry leader in Geographic Information Systems, GPS Data Collection, Aerial Imagery, and Data Conversion.  We…

Monitoring sediment in your lake

A partner within The Mapping Network helped a Home Owners Association (HOA) be proactive and monitored the inflow of sediment into their lake based upon five-year intervals.  Comparing water and sediment depth data from 2000, 2005, 2010, and 2015 the HOA discovered a increase in sediment rate from 2005-2010 due to heavy construction upstream. This data helped the HOA establish baseline information on their lake and aided them with facts for working with developers who were responsible for the sediment.  It…

How much does does Dredging cost?

How much does dredging cost is the most commonly asked question for many lake associations.  We sat down with Dan McDougal, President of Dredge America and asked him that question.   When lake homeowner’s call for our assistance with their potential upcoming dredging projects, the first question we usually get asked is, “How much does it cost?” This is usually followed by, “Just a ballpark figure that I won’t hold you to.” Then we often…
