South Carolina Lake Mapping to Identify Spawning Habitat

Quality Lakes mapped a lake in rural South Carolina as part of a fisheries habitat plan.   The client needed to locate potential spawning tables, which occur in 5 foot of water or less.   Additional habitat work will ensue to allow for additional spawning areas to increase the overall health of the fishery. High Resolution Drone Aerials for Lake Mapping

Trent Lewis, owner of PondMedics, had a homeowners association with many homes constructed in the past couple years around their ponds.  The HOA needed to determine the current water depths along with sediment volume.   Since most aerial imagery services take a year or two (sometimes longer) to update, a majority of the newly constructed homes were not shown.   PondMedics flew the property with a specialized drone and The Mapping Network assisted in processing the data…

Pond Spawning Shelf Design

Quality Lakes owner Wade Bales completed a bathymetric survey of a lake in South Carolina.   To successfully grow large bass and other fish in the lake, it was determined there needed to be four spawning shelves .   The Mapping Network worked with Mr. Bales to design and estimate the amount of material needed to construct the shelves. About The Mapping Network:  The Mapping Network is an industry leader in Geographic Information Systems, GPS Data Collection,…

Texas Sediment Survey for Dredge Planning

Pond Medics created a bathymetry and a sediment volume study for a property owners association in Texas. The lake was mapped to understand current water depths and to calculate the amount of accumulated sediment.  This is essential information to plan and help the POA manage the future dredging project. About The Mapping Network:  The Mapping Network is an industry leader in Geographic Information Systems, GPS Data Collection, Aerial Imagery, and Data Conversion.  We specialize in…

Power Station Predredge Survey for Ash Pond Dredging Project

The Mapping Network team performed a hydrographic predredge survey on a large ash reservoir for a power station in Kansas.   The purpose was to quantify and locate ash accumulation that needed to be dredged per EPA regulations.   By comparing the original bottoms of the ponds with the current bottom depths, a computer model calculated the location and amount of material.  The power company and dredge contractor will use this information to assist in validating that all the…

Post Dredge Comparison Map

The Mapping Network completed a post dredge bathymetry survey to show the status of a multiple cove dredging project on a lake near Kansas City.   The comparison map was calculated to verify the amount and location of material removed.   Areas still needing to be dredged are located and the dredging contractor will focus their efforts on those locations.  This verifies the dredging has reached the planned depths. About The Mapping Network:  The Mapping Network is…

Dredging Case Study by PondMedics

The Mapping Network partner, PondMedics, Inc.,wrote a practical guide about planning and executing a dredging project of your own.  The examples used in this guide are taken from a recent project PondMedics, Inc. conducted on two irrigation/storm water retention ponds at a world-renown soccer complex in a northern suburb of Dallas. Sediment Volume Calculation for Dredge Project

The Mapping Network and Aquatic Environmental Services completed a sediment survey for a lake near Atlanta, Georgia.   The current water depths were mapped as well as the depth to hard bottom.  The difference between the current water depth (top of sediment) and the hard bottom is the amount of soft sediment that can be removed to bring the lake back to the original depths.  The client is preparing for dredging proposals for two coves and…

Virginia Lake Mapping and Dredge Planning

Solitude Lake Management created a bathymetry and a sediment volume study for a property owners association in Virginia. The pond was mapped to understand current water depths and to calculate the amount of accumulated sediment.  This information with assist the POA with future dredge planning. About The Mapping Network:  The Mapping Network is an industry leader in Geographic Information Systems, GPS Data Collection, Aerial Imagery, and Data Conversion.  We specialize in terrain and sub-surface (bathymetry)…

Calculating Sediment for Dredging Plan in Georgia

Aquatic Environmental Services, a lake mapping partner within The Mapping Network completed a lake survey for a reservoir near Atlanta, Georgia.   The current water depths were mapped as well as the depth to hard bottom.  The difference between the current water depth (top of sediment) and the hard bottom is the amount of soft sediment that can be removed to bring the lake back to the original depths.  The client is preparing for dredging proposals…
